This eight reales is one of a series struck 1827-93 at the San Luis Potosí mint. This date is scarce compared to the later issues of the 1880's and 1890's but is not rare. An 1842/1 overdate is noted for the year. Assayer JS is recorded for 1827-42. This specimen was lot 4109 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it sold for $423. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico. 8 Reales, 1842-Pi JS. Toned. NGC graded MS-63. Ex Nogales Collection."

Recorded mintage: unknown plus assayer PS.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
