Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, part of lot 73100

This specimen was part of lot 73100 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $915. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Group of 2 Reales (10 Pieces), 1835-43. Guanajuato Mint. Grade Range: FINE to VERY FINE. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. Guanajuato and Zacatecas were the two mints which made a serious effort to strike minor coinage in addition to eight reales for export. Both assayers PM (1842-48) and PJ (shown here, 1834-42) are listed from Guanajuato for 1842. The SCWC notes an 1842-PM/PJ.
