Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 73084

This specimen was lot 73084 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,830. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1841-Go PJ. Guanajuato Mint. NGC MS-63. Tied with one other for highest graded by NGC. Sharp strike with dark toning. Evidence of die clash on reverse. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. Guanajuato and Zacatecas were the two mints which made a serious effort to strike minor coinage in addition to eight reales for export. Assayer PJ served 1834-42.
