This specimen was lot 1464 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Republic. 8 Escudos, 1841 Go PJ. Guanajuato. Hand holding cap on pole, book of law. Rv. Eagle on cactus, snake in mouth. A lustrous example of this early date 8 Escudos that displays light lines in the fields. Good golden color. About Uncirculated." The Guanajuato mint struck eight escudos 1828-70 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common.
