This specimen was lot 25140 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $2,585. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1840 Go-PJ, AU55 NGC, nicely struck with pleasant surfaces and luster in the legends, an attractive example for this early date." The Guanajuato mint struck eight escudos for Mexico 1828-70 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW.
