Mexico 1840-Go PJ 8 reales

Shown is a fake 1840 "G-J" next to a genuine 1837-Go PJ 8 reales. This particular counterfeit is common and is documented in Buttrey and Hubbard[1] and Riddell[2]. Besides the incorrect mintmark and mintmaster, the greenish color (from the excessive copper content) gives it away. Even so, there are extensive signs of circulation.
