Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 73118

This specimen was lot 73118 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,281. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1840-Mo ML. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-63. Very scarce date. Finest of four examples graded by NGC. Usual softness on eagle with light toning. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. Shown is an 1840-M^O ML 2 reales, one of a type struck at the Mexico City mint 1825-37, 1840-42, 1847-63, 1867-68 with assayer ML noted for 1833-42. The SCWC agrees with the auctioneers in calling this and the accompanying 1840/7 overdate rare.
