Stack's Bowers 2026 NYINC sale, lot 47998

This specimen was lot 47998 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1839-Go PJ. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS Genuine--Spot Removed, AU Details." The Guanajuato mint struck this type 1828-63 and 1867-70 and is accounted a common mint. The SCWC reports an 1839/8 overdate but the rise in this coin's bullion value has overwhelmed any difference in price between the dates.
