This specimen was lot 73369 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1839-Zs OM. Zacatecas Mint. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, Fine Details. Coming from a VERY RARE date, this retains adequate detail and legends despite a fair bit of circulation. A pair of short scratches above the rays accounts for the designation but can be easily overlooked due to the coin's attractive tone and overall charm." Assayer OM is recorded for 1830-55; four reales were struck at Zacatecas 1830-70. Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato as the commonest mint. This particular date is rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.
