This specimen was lot 71263 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1839-Pi JS. Potosi Mint. PCGS EF-45 Gold Shield. A well struck 8 Reales of San Luis Potosí. Gunmetal gray toning and with even wear. A better early date." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1827-93 at the San Luis Potosí mint. This date is rather common. Assayer JS is recorded for 1827-42.
