This specimen was lot 72220 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $915. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1841/36-Pi JS. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC VF-25. Only example graded by NGC. Scarce date and interesting overdate as no 1836 1/2 Real coins are known from this mint. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The San Luis Potosi mint struck half reales 1831, 1841-63 and most are scarcer than the SCWC indicates. Assayer JS (Juan Sanabria) served 1827-42. The SCWC notes this overdate as the sole variety for this scarce date.
