This specimen was lot 3776 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO: Republic, AR 2 reales, 1842-Pi, assayer PS, somewhat flat strike, better date/assayer, VF." Shown is an 1842Pi-PS two reales, one of a type struck at the Potosi mint 1829-30, 1837, 1842-50, 1857-63, 1868-69. Assayer PS is recorded for 1842-43 along with assayer JS for 1842. Thirteen mints (Alamos, Chihuahua, Durango, Estado de Mexico, Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato as the commonest mint. This date is not common.
