This specimen was struck at the Mexico City mint in 1842, one of a type struck there 1825-63. Assayer ML is listed for 1834-42. The SCWC also lists assayer MM for the year. Both are common. The second specimen was lot 45395 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1842-Mo ML. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-64. A lovely near-Gem with reflective fields, razor sharp strike detail, and a splash of dark toning on the peripheries."

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.903 fine silver, .049 troy oz ASW.
