This specimen was part of lot 72428 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $317.20. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Nonet of Reales (9 Pieces), 1841-61. San Luis Potosi Mint. Grade Range: FINE to EF Details. 1) 1841-Pi JS. 2) 1842-Pi PS. 3) 1843-Pi PS. 4) 1845-Pi AM. 5) 1847/6-Pi AM. 6) 1848/7-Pi AM. 7) 1851/0-Pi MC. 8) 1860/9-Pi PS. 9) 1861-Pi PS. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated. One reales were struck at San Luis Potosi 1831, 1837-62 and individual dates vary from common to rare. Assayers JS and PS are both listed for 1842; the 1842-JS is slightly scarce while the 1842-PS is common.
