Shown is an 1843GaMC 2 reales, one of a type struck at the Guadalajara mint 1825-62. Assayer MC (Manuel Cueras) is recorded this mint for the years 1840-45 as well as assayer JG (Juan de Dios Guzman) for 1843. Other mints include Guanajuato, Mexico City, Alamos, Hermosillo, Zacatecas, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Potosi, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. This mintmark is slightly better for two reales but no special premium is attached to this date.
