SB924-73188r.jpg

This specimen was lot 73188 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1843/34-Do RM. Durango Mint. NGC VF Details--Cleaned. Despite its noted cleaning, this circulated crown presents some deeper color near the peripheries and a clear overdate." Various overdates exist for this date (1843/33 is mentioned in the SCWC but not the 1843/34 shown here). The 1843-Do is more available than the 1844-Do but less common than the 1842-Do. Assayer RM is listed for 1830-48.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-377.4; DP-Do20.
