This specimen was lot 72284 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $219.60. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1843-Do RM. Durango Mint. NGC EF-40. Only example graded by NGC. Medium toning, soft center. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated. One reales were struck at the Durango mint 1832-37, 1841-64. Assayer RM (Ramon Mascarenas) served 1832-48. This regular date is accompanied by an 1843/37 overdate. The French eagle shown here is distinctive to this mint.
