This specimen was lot 72080 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $268.40. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1843-D RM. Durango Mint. NGC AU Details--Reverse Damage. Second year with no superscript "o" in mintmark. Attractive toning with softness in center and small dings on reverse. Nonetheless a decent example of date. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. This specimen was struck at the Durango mint in 1843, one of a type struck there 1832-34, 1837, 1841-64 and 1869. While Durango produced substantial numbers of eight reales and gold, silver minors are scarce and no four reales exist. Assayer RM (Ramon Mascarenas) is listed for 1830-48. The SCWC notes an overdate, 1843/33. The French eagle shown here is distinctive to this mint.
