This specimen was lot 72318 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $170.80. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1843-Ga MC. Guadalajara Mint. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned. Finest of just two graded by NGC. Sharp strike with small flaw on cap. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated. The Guadalajara mint produced one reales nearly continuously 1826-62. Assayer JG (Juan de Dios Guzman, 1836-63) and assayer MC (Manuel Cueras, 1839-45) both stamped one reales in 1843. The 1843-MC is common while the 1843-JG is very scarce, verging on rare.
