This specimen was part of lot 73155 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $1,037. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Nonet of 2 Reales (9 Pieces), 1830-68. San Luis Potosi Mint. Grade Range: VERY GOOD to VERY FINE. 1) 1830-Pi JS. 2) 1841-Pi JS. Straight "J" variety. 3) 1841-Pi JS. Rounded "J" variety. 4) 1842/1-Pi JS. 5) 1842-Pi PS. 6) 1843-Pi AM. 7) 1844-Pi AM. Normal spaced "i" in mintmark. 8) 1844-Pi AM. Near "i" in mintmark. 9) 1868-Pi PS. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. The San Luis Potosi mint struck two reales 1829-30, 1837, 1841-46, 1849-50, 1856-63 and 1868-69, with a number of rare dates. Assayer AM (José Antonio Mucharraz, 1843-49) and assayer PS (Pompaso Sanabria, 1842-61) both struck two reales in 1843, with AM being the more common.
