This specimen was lot 7299 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,265. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1843-GoPM. NGC AU-55." The SCWC rates this coin as common while Long[2] calls this date "scarce" with the finest known as "cleaned AU." The Guanajuato mint was the most prolific issuer of gold during the Republic.
