This specimen was lot 31255 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1844 Go-PM AU58 NGC, Guanajuato mint. Borderline Mint State and a very lustrous specimen, with scattered handling marks well within the confines of the designation. The much rarer variety with the eagle style of the 1843. From The Valle de la Rana Collection." The Guanajuato mint struck eight escudos 1828-70 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common.
