This specimen was lot 72412 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $2,196. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1844-Pi AM. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC MS-64. Tied with one other for highest graded at NGC. Very attractive with medium sunset toning on obverse. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated. One reales are recorded from San Luis Potosi for 1831, 1837-62. This year is listed as scarce with no varieties noted. Assayer AM served 1843-49.
