Mexico 1844-GC MP escudo

Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 39197

This specimen was lot 39197 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $840. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1844-GC MP. Guadalupe y Calvo Mint. NGC AU-55." The specimen shown is one of a series struck 1844-52 at the Guadalupe y Calvo mint. That mint struck all the silver and gold denominations used during the republic, from the quarter real to the eight escudos. None are common, tho the gold tends to appear more often than the silver.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold.
