Mexico 1844-Mo MF 8 escudos

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 21196

This specimen was lot 21196 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1844-MoMF. NGC EF-45. RARE date. Noted by Richard Long as 'an extremely rare coin.' This example shows even wear with no major defects. Luster still remaining in the devices." The specimen shown is a middle date of a series struck 1824-69 at the Mexico City mint. That mint struck all denominations, silver, gold and copper. This date is noted as rare.
