Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 42674

This specimen was lot 42674 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1844-Pi AM. San Luis Potosí Mint. PCGS AU-58." This specimen was struck at the San Luis Potosí mint in 1844. This mint opened in 1827 and operated until 1893 and struck silver and copper denominations but never gold. This date is somewhat scarce in circulated condition. Assayer AM is recorded for 1843-49.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver.
