from Stack's Bowers November 2015 sale, lot 39422

This specimen was lot 39422 in Stack's Bowers Winter sale (Baltimore, November 2015), where it sold for $587.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1845-PiAM. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. Satin luster in the fields with a light outline of deposits on some of the devices. Fully original." This specimen was struck at the San Luis Potosí mint in 1845. This mint opened in 1827 and operated until 1893 and struck silver and copper denominations but never gold. This date is somewhat scarce in circulated condition, along with an 1845/4 overdate. Assayer AM is recorded for 1843-49.
