Mexico 1843-Ga MC 8 reales

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 71242

This specimen was lot 71242 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $192. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1843-GaMC. Guadalajara Mint. NGC Unc Details--Surface Hairlines. Faint adjustment marks on the obverse with a reasonably good strike, better than most. Highly lustrous and quite attractive despite the details designation." For 1843, the SCWC lists an overdate, 1843/2, and two assayers, MC and JG. This date is somewhat scarce but assayer JG is rare.
