This specimen was lot 72170 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,830. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1867-Ho PR/FM. Hermosillo Mint. NGC MS-62. Scarce mint. By far the finest and only Mint State example graded by NGC. Next best coin is EF Details. Very rare condition for type and mint. Well struck, a hint off-center on obverse. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The Hermosillo mint struck half reales 1839, 1862 and 1867. The 1839 is unique and the 1862 is rare, leaving this date as very scarce, especially in uncirculated. The 1867 only comes with the assayer punched over FM. All of the Hermosillo minors (half, one, two and four reales) are scarce to very rare. Many, tho not this one, feature the Sonoran eagle used only at Hermosillo and Culiacan.
Recorded mintage: unknown but very scarce.
Specification: 1.69 g, 0.903 fine silver, .049 troy oz ASW.
Catalog reference: KM-370.8.
