The specimen shown is an 1867Pi-PS eight reales from the San Luis Potosí mint, which struck the type 1827-93. The San Luis Potosí mint closed in 1895, having struck most of the silver and copper denominations but never issued gold. The SCWC lists three assayers (CA, LR and PS) and an overassayer PS/CA, shown here. All are scarce to rare. This specimen was lot 6449 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $431.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Potosi. 8 Reales, 1867-PS/CA. EXTREMELY RARE variety. FINE." This specimen was offered again as lot 1259 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $780.
