Mexico SB819-23250r.jpg

This specimen was lot 23250 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2019), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1867-Ga JM. Guadalajara Mint. NGC VF Details--Chopmarked, Scratches. Despite the light scratches and chops, this coin is still a rather RARE piece for this date and mint combination, with no price even being listed in the current Krause trends. Accordingly, this cataloger could only locate two other examples to have crossed the auction block in the past two decades." The Guadalajara mint issued this type 1825-95. Assayer JM is also listed for 1868-69. Most dates after 1875 from this mint are readily available.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM-377.6. DP-Ga47.
