Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 565

This specimen was lot 565 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £3,000 (about US$4,646 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic, 8 escudos, Hermosillo mint, 1867 PR, 6 of date possibly over 5, mint state. NGC holder graded MS 63+." The Hermosillo mint struck eight escudos 1863-73; most of the dates are available in well circulated condition but nice specimens are scarce. The Hermosillo mint continued striking eight escudos after the other mints had ceased; the 1873-HO is the last ever issued of the denomination.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
