This specimen was lot 12389 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $3,819. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Hermosillo. 8 Escudos, 1868-HoPR. PCGS AU-53 Secure Holder. Very scarce mint." The Hermosillo mint struck eight escudos 1863-73; most of the dates are available in well circulated condition but nice specimens are scarce. The Hermosillo mint continued striking eight escudos after the other mints had ceased; the 1873-HO is the last ever issued of the denomination.
