Sincona sale 38, lot 1717

This specimen was lot 1717 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,319 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Republik 8 Escudos 1868. C-CE-Culiacan, Sehr schön. (republic of Mexico, eight escudos of 1868, Culiacan mint. Very fine.)"

The Culiacan mint struck eight escudos for Mexico 1846-70 and most dates are reasonably available. The CB assayer reported for 1868 is an error, caused by a die break.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW, this specimen 26.97 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-66, KM 383.2.
