Mexico 1868Mo C 5 centavos rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is a rare date of a series struck 1869-97 at the Mexico City mint. The date is unlisted in the SCWC and some consider it a pattern, tho most of the survivors are well worn, suggesting an issue meant for circulation. This five centavos piece replaced the "cap and rays" five centavos piece (KM 397) struck 1867-68. It, in turn, was replaced by a "slim eagle" five centavos piece (KM 400) in 1898.
