Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 569

This specimen was lot 569 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £2,600 (about US$4,027 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic, 8 escudos, Oaxaca mint, 1868 AE, choice mint state, lightly toned. Ex Guatemala Hoard. NGC holder graded MS 62." The Oaxaca mint struck eight escudos 1858-69; most of the dates are available in well circulated condition but nice specimens are scarce, especially as the Oaxaca mint is notorious for poor strike.
