This specimen was lot 1395 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $1,955. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Republic. 20 Pesos, 1888 Mo M. Mexico City. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Rv. Cap and Rays above scales of Justice, dagger, and scroll of laws. Lightly circulated with residual lustre, lightly hairlined fields, and a strong strike. The obverse has a slight doubled die. About Uncirculated." The Mexico City mint struck this type 1870-1905 and was by far the largest producer.
