Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 633

This specimen was lot 633 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £380 (about US$589 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Decimal Coinage, gold peso, Guanajuato mint, 1888 R, minimal traces of handling, mint state, very rare." Even the common dates have low mintages but the type was widely hoarded, making it reasonably available today. Altho Guanajuato is considered a common mint, this is a rare date.

Recorded mintage: 210.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.875 fine gold, .047 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-161, KM 410.3.
