Mexico 1888Do 10 centavos rev JS.jpg

This specimen is a somewhat scarce date of a series struck 1878-95 at the Durango mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898 but the Durango mint closed in 1895.

Specification: 2.707 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, .078 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Recorded mintage: 31,000.

Catalog reference: KM 403.3.
