Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70773

This specimen was lot 70773 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1888-Oa AE. Oaxaca Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Mostly golden toned with some underlying hairlines that determine the grade." The output of the Oaxaca mint was generally small compared to the other mints. However, enough of the later dates were saved that they are reasonably available. This date is common.
