Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 505

This specimen was lot 505 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £140 (about US$217 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic, 8 reales, Oaxaca mint, 1889 AE, well struck, from clashed dies (as noted by Dunigan and Parker), good extremely fine." The output of the Oaxaca mint was generally small compared to the other mints. However, enough of the later dates were saved that they are reasonably available. This date is only slightly scarce.

Recorded mintage: 150,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
