This specimen was lot 3585 in Goldberg sale 104 (Los Angeles, June 2018), where it sold for $1,290. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 5 Pesos, 1889-ZsZ. Balance scales and Liberty Cap. Reverse: Eagle. Mintage 373. PCGS graded MS-64." Shown is an 1889-Zs Z five pesos gold piece, of a type struck at Zacatecas 1870-1905. The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Chihuahua and Hermosillo but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. Despite the miniscule mintage, the 1889-ZsZ is not considered a rare date.
