This specimen was lot 22756 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Pesos, 1889-MoM. PCGS Genuine--Cleaning, AU Details Secure Holder. Well struck and nicely defined. Pale bright yellow in color attesting to it having been cleaned. Heavy chatter throughout the fields." Shown is an 1889-Mo M five pesos gold piece, of a type struck at Mexico City 1870-1905. The type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Chihuahua, Hermosillo and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. Despite the miniscule mintage, the 1889-MoM is not considered a rare date.
