Morton & Eden sale 104, lot 636

This specimen was lot 636 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £440 (about US$682 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Decimal Coinage, gold 1 peso, Zacatecas mint, 1888 Z, mint state, very rare. Ex Pradeau Collection." This is the key date of the six dates known from this mint. Even the common dates have low mintages but the type was widely hoarded, making it reasonably available today.

Recorded mintage: 280.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.875 fine gold, .047 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 410.6.
