from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23390

This specimen was lot 23390 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1888-GaJS. PCGS MS-65+ Secure Holder. Intricately detailed with world-class luster in the fields and light russet tone along a small portion of the rims on the cap and rays side. The single finest example graded by either PCGS or NGC." The Guadalajara mint produced large quantities of eight reales 1825-95 and most later dates are readily available, including this one. Assayer JS is listed for 1885-95.

Recorded mintage: 1,159,000.
