This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1870-90 at the Zacatecas mint, which closed in 1905. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. This date is common but scarce in nice condition. The first specimen was lot 9134 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $517.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Zacatecas. 25 Centavos, 1888-ZsZ. NGC MS-64."

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 408,000.
