This type is also recorded from Culiacan, Durango, Guanajuato, Alamos, Hermosillo and Zacatecas but Mexico City is by far the most prolific issuer. The series, never popular, ended in 1893. This specimen was lot 40288 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 1/2 Pesos, 1888-MoM. NGC MS-63 PL. Mintage of only 540 pieces."

Specification: 4.23 g, 0.875 fine gold, .119 troy oz AGW.
