Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Mexico City is among the more available dates, though the SCWC gives it a 20% premium over the type coin. Other mints include Hermosillo, Culiacan, Durango, Chihuahua, Guanajuato (which was the only other mint to strike this type in 1869), Alamos and Potosi. The second specimen was lot 9196 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $575. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1869-MoC. Very attractive. ANACS MS-63.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
