This specimen was lot 24739 in Heritage sale 3016 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $3,737.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1869C-CE, MS63 NGC, softly struck in the central areas but with full luster and only minor imperfections. Rare and desirable in this superior grade." The Culiacan mint struck eight escudos for Mexico 1846-70 and most dates are reasonably available but are seldom seen in this quality.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz ASW.
