Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Guanajuato is the first date of issue but is still fairly common. This specimen was lot 9176 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $373.75. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Guanajuato. 50 Centavos, 1869-GoS. Sharply struck. NGC Unc Details--Surface Hairlines.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
